Robbery suspect shot dead by the police in downtown Kingston

The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of a man by the police in downtown Kingston on Sunday.

The police said a firearm was seized in the incident.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Tajay Brown.

Reports are that about 4:30 a.m., a police team went to a section of Duke Street after receiving reports of a robbery in progress at a business establishment.

The police said when they arrived in the area, they saw three men, two of whom ran upon seeing the law enforcers.

It is reported that the man who remained on the scene, attacked the police with a knife and was shot in response.

He was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injury.

One of the men who reportedly ran from the scene, was later apprehended.
