Security forces bag four guns, ammunition in targeted St Catherine operation

The St Catherine North police seized four pistols and three 9mm rounds of ammunition, and arrested a man in relation to the seizure during a joint police/military operation in the Old Road area of Thompson Pen in the parish on Sunday, April 6.

The seizure came as a result of a shooting incident on Saturday, April 5, in which three persons were injured in the area by gunmen.

Reports from the Spanish Town police are that about 10:30 pm on Saturday, three persons, including two women, were at a shop when they were pounced upon by gunmen travelling on foot, who opened fire, hitting them.

The police were alerted and the injured persons were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The injured man is said to be in critical condition.

As a result of the incident, a security force team commenced an operation in the area. At about 12:30 pm on Sunday, a house that was occupied by a man was searched, and the pistols, along with three 9mm rounds of ammunition, were reportedly found in his possession.

He was taken custody, but his identity is being withheld pending further investigation by the police.
