The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) has started recruiting Election Day workers across the island.
"All applicants must be non-partisan; be able to read and write well; and have at least secondary level education," a post on the EOJ's X (formerly Twitter) page said on Thursday.
Suitably qualified persons are invited to apply at an EOJ constituency office. All applications must be accompanied by a valid identification (ID) card and a tax registration number (TRN).
The EOJ said successful applicants will receive the required training, while all Election Day workers will receive compensation.
In another post on X on Friday, the EOJ reminded persons that they can renew their voter ID cards at the nearest EOJ office.
The developments have sparked the interest of some social media users who theorized that General Elections, which are due by September of this year, could soon be called.
Notably, both the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) have heightened their political activities nationally.
The JLP has been conducting what it has dubbed as "soundings" in some constituencies, including North West St Elizabeth, to decide on their potential candidates.
Elsewhere, the party's delegates are engaged in voting on whether to allow certain parliamentarians to seek re-election.
JLP delegates in Western Westmoreland and Southern Manchester have so far voted to keep Moreland Wilson and Robert Chin, respectively, among the party's slate of candidates. Both men are first-term MPs, having won in the 2020 elections.
For the PNP, party President and Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, is making several stops across the island with the party's respective candidates to drum up support for them.
Golding has previously expressed the view that the national polls are imminent.
