
A team of police officers assigned to the St Thomas Proactive Investigation Unit (PIU) seized an AK-47 assault rifle and 18 assorted rounds of ammunition during an operation in the communities of Blacksmith and Stewart Field districts, both in Seaforth in the parish, on Wednesday, March 26.
Reports from the Morant Bay police are that between the hours of 10am and 1pm, law enforcers were in the area when areas in the communities were searched. During a search in the Stewart Field community, the AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing six 5.56 rounds of ammunition, and twelve 12 gauge shotgun rounds, were seen hidden inside a knitted bag that was in a PVC pipe that had been buried alongside a riverbed.
No one was arrested in relation to the seizure.
An investigation continues into the find and seizure.
